How to Find a Financial Planner
Let's face it, aside from your travel agent, a ThirdAger's best friend may be his or her financial planner. Here's how to find a financial pro. Plus, Jeff discusses living on the house with a reverse mortgage.
Dear Jeff: I am in search of a financial planner. Is there some way that you might be able to recommend one in the New Jersey area? If not, how would I find one that has proven successful? What would be my steps?
Jeff Says: Hiring a financial planner is not much different than hiring any other professional. Ask others in a similar financial circumstance to yours whom they recommend. Check your Yellow Pages and interview a few of those listed. If you want a list of questions to ask, visit the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards at their site.
Another method that I highly recommend is to contact the International Association of Financial Planning. This site will help you find a qualified advisor in your area.
