Improve Your Odds, Use Online Matchmakers
Oh, I just hate it when people make fun of online relationships. Whenever I hear some television newscaster putting down cyber-romance, or warning us about some sociopath supposedly following unsuspecting women on the Internet, I get mad.
Even when it's Oprah Winfrey, I want to wring her neck for trying to scare singles out of using this powerful social tool. Tiny viewpoints on huge phenomena set me off.
For me and cyberspace, it was love at first byte. When I took my singles' business online, I had a serious intimacy agenda--to help men and women find the best relationship of their lives; no more, no less.
At first I was simply seduced by the Internet's potential for expanding numbers of introductions. But as I became enamored of the way our inner lives can be shared in this electronic environment, my commitment to helping people use this medium deepened. Eventually, I married the idea that intelligent grown-ups can learn how to find the relationships they most deeply desire--on the Internet.
The Internet is the biggest engine of social change since the alphabet. The transformations we will see in our lifetime may be well beyond the effects of mere literacy. Why think that relationships between men and women will remain outside this sphere of change? Intimate relationships and computers are both here to stay and won't be kept apart. Thank God.
