Women who are more attractive than their man could be setting themselves up for a doomed relationship, a new study says.
British researchers at Stirling, Chester and Liverpool universities came to that conclusion after studying photos of 100 couples. In some cases, the man was better looking than the women; in other cases, the woman was better looking than the man. And still other couples had the same level of attractiveness. The researchers then looked at the length of the couples relationships (and whether they were still together).
They found that when the woman is better-looking, the relationship is usually short. Using that logic, its perfectly understandable why Angelina Jolie dumped Billy Bob Thornton, and why Julia Roberts left singer Lyle Lovett. Researcher Rob Burriss told the London Daily Mail the study indicated that a good-looking woman is in control of whether the relationship continues. Another factor in shorter relationships: The man may be jealous of the attention paid to his partner.
As for less attractive women with good-looking boyfriends, researchers concluded that there was no obstacle to success in that kind of relationship.
The study also found that people paired up with others whose facial features have a symmetry to their own and had good relationsips. And that, Burriss said, indicates that our ideal partner is on our level.
No wonder long-time couples look like each other.
