The Chemistry of Sexual Passion

Let me guess youve been married for a while, and your love life has lost its zing. One (if not both) of you has a low sex drive. And even when you do have sex, its not particularly memorable. This unfortunate state of affairs is more common than not in long-term relationships. However, if you understand the dynamics of passion, you can activate a sensuality in your love-making that can wake up a sleepy sex life. Amazingly enough, there is a recipe to generate passion when that automatic lusty spark of love burns less bright. It involves returning to our instincts as man and woman. In reuniting with our core sexual energy, we can open ourselves and our partner to a deeper, more sensually alive experience.

Passion requires the union of opposites. It thrives when masculine and feminine sexual energies merge. Masculine energy is the energy of force, presence, and attention. It directs, guides, and contains. Feminine energy is the energy of flow, emotion, allowing, and letting go. It is a vast, murky territory of receptivity and openness. When force meets receptivity, magic can ensue. Unfortunately, both of these energies have a dark side that give them a bad name. Masculinity is perceived as threatening and controlling. Femininity can be perceived as weak and superficial. In an effort to avoid these negative connotations, many people have moved away from a more pure expression of sexual energy into a more androgynous style. While androgyny may be politically correct and sexually safe, its also sexually boring. But offering a more pure sexual energy can feel vulnerable and exposing. Its a dilemma that each of us struggle with, mostly unconsciously, every time we make love.
