Do you know or have you heard the latest "age descrimination" line? Even when one is absolutely perfect for the position, and I've been hearing this lately..."WE'VE DECIDED TO TAKE THE COMPANY IN ANOTHER and/or NEW DIRECTION." Kid you not, I've heard this one from friends and family.
Hello Sunny: I'm 58 years old and most of my working life has been doing what I could as a single mom, ultimately getting me into the law office. I was with a major law firm being "trained" as a litigation secretary floater" though my training went by the wayside and I was sent to corporate and labor law depts. Three years ago I worked for a family law attorney. I have a decent resume but it's at least almost four years old now. During my time away from the office setting, I completed an online legal secretary course with a 94% and took other college courses as well. My first thought, since I've worked somewhat in the law office is to obtain my paralegal certificate. Is this really what I want to do? NO. Is it something I can do sooner than later? YES. I'd love to complete my BA/BS degree and ultimately teach at college level in philosophy, humanities, women's studies but the time ahead of me is less than the time behind me. Needless-to-say, I've been just plain stuck. Also, I've a husband that I can never really count on to maintain a job, literally forcing me back out into the work world, necessitating my bypassing my education in lieu of taking a low-paying job...Any advise/tips are very much appreciated. I need to get my own work life and soon. Paula
