Hormone Therapy for Menopause

Hormone Therapy for Menopause

Have you tried hormone therapy? Are you thinking of trying it? Get information and talk to others who are in the same boat here.

Vagifem to TooBusy

Hi, used Vagifem about 2 years ago & it helped somewhat with the dryness, but not enough; switched to Estrace & then Estring. Both of those helped with some uncomfortableness during intercourse & dryness--but not 100%. Sometimes I think even with the high cost of these vaginal estrogens, they don't completely do the trick. You *might* have to supplement with some over the counter vaginal lubricants that relieve dryness up to 3 days per applicator(not cheap though either). I didn't have any reactions from Vagifem though & I know another lady who was on the other meno site that uses Vagifem for quite awhile now who is okay with it. Crickett

Vagifem anyone?

I was given Vagifem for dryness and pH changes.

Anyone have any side effects from it?

Estrace Question for Luce or Susan 1 if you are still here?

Hi, quick question, I know Susan 1 said that she uses Estrace. I have an Estring, but to help the outer tissues more so--I put Estrace on the outer area of the vagina a couple times per week if I remember. Is it safe for my husband to have oral sex if using that? Thanks, Crickett

Bioidentical Hormone Pellets

I was posting on the old site too. So I thought I'd post my story here.

I had a complete hysterectomy in 1987 when I was in my 30’s. I managed my menopause symptoms with different estrogen pills. But no doctor ever mentioned the loss of sex drive or the benefits of testosterone. For 16 years, I had no sex drive. I tried to get off estrogen but was in a miserable place physically. Nightsweats and hot flashes were unbearable. Then in 2004, I read a newsletter from my gyn about Bioidentical Hormone Pellets. I did some research and what caught my eye was one of the symptoms of low testosterone is thinning/loss of pubic hair and loss of sex drive. That was me! I also felt like my name was after every symptom. There was a ray of hope! I talked to my dr about the pellets. She does thousands of women and has them herself.

So I decided to get them. I get 2 estrogen pellets which are 25mg each, and 1 testosterone pellet of 75mgs. I will get these pellets as long as I am able. Hopefully till I die.

Here is the procedure: My doc numbs a small area on my hip with lidocaine. Then she makes a very tiny incision and then inserts the pellets. She puts on some steri-strips, a Band-Aid and off I go.

I have to say they drastically changed my life for the better. First of all the menopause symptoms went away. But the absolute best was the increase in sex drive. Desire, lubrication and orgasm went through the roof. It's more than just sexual too. I'm more confident, outgoing, and my self image has increased.

So there are other options out there besides pills, patches, creams and gels.

Hi Nancy, Crickett from the

Hi Nancy, Crickett from the old board here.  I forget if I asked you this(gosh I should be on the "Memory Board" :) ).  Anyway, does your doctor know of any doctors doing this procedure in Wisconsin?  Do you need a complete physical exam, including mammo prior to the initial procedure or just blood work?  Thanks, Crickett53

HI Crickett, It depends

HI Crickett,

It depends on the doctor.  My gynecologist does my pellets so she already had all my info.

The list I have of Pellet docs from College Pharmacy does not have any in Wisconsin.  There is one listed in Skokie, Evanston, Elk Grove and Morris,  Il.  But that doesn't mean there aren't any.

I would look up gynecologists in the phone book and ask them if they do Bioidentical Hormone Subcutaneous Pellets.   If you get: "huh"...move on.

I'll keep looking and if I find one I'll post back with info.

Nancy, I am interested in

Nancy,

I am interested in finding the name of the gynecologist in Elk Grove. Can you help me out?  Thanks.

Nancy, if you or I do find

Nancy, if you or I do find one who does these pellet procedures, what tests are required before the doctor will do these?  Thanks, Crickett

Good morning, Normally

Good morning,

Normally just estrogen and testosterone hormone blood tests.  But I never had a test for the first three years of pellets.  My doc went on my symptoms.  I know of another doctor in NC that goes mostly by symptoms.  That's why it's important to go to a doc experienced in pellets.  The blood tests are only a part of the story.  It's mostly based on how you feel.

Nancy

Hi Nancy,   I live in

Hi Nancy,

I live in Naperville and and interested in the name of the gynecologist in Elk Grove that does pellets.  I currently have pellets but would love to go to a gynecologist who does them and could do all of the follow up care too.
