Sleepless In AZ
During the week, I work 4-10 hour shifts doing construction trade. Naturally, I sleep well then. But for the most part, I don't sleep. Seems if I just lay down, I'm gone. So, don't lay down. LMAO!
not sleeping
Hey there, boy am I suffering from this. Was awake until 6 a.m. this morning. Finally got up at 10:00 a.m. drugged from taking two elavil 10 mg. pills. Usually in the past 1/2 an elavil has done the job. Don't know if it is hormonal or mental or both. Had one ovary taken out about 6 years ago. Still have my uterus and one ovary left. Remaining ovary is too small to do much good. Anyhow--it seems like I just don't get tired. Seem excessively stimulated all the time. Hate it. I want to be so tired that I can't keep my eyes shut. I am going to the store today to buy some valerian root. Hate taking drugs. Any advice. I am on progesterone cream, test cream and estriol. Rubbed some progest on me this morning. It seems like the progest aggravates my colitis problem. Egads--just don't know what to do anymore. I would love some advice. thanks.

I went through this for a while! The only thing that helped me was some xanax. I took the lowest dose 25 mg and cut it in half. I took it an hour before I was to go to sleep and it worked for me. HRT's messed with me too! I hate them. It's prolonging getting through menopause in my opinion! I"m sleeping better now and without anything so it will pass!! Hope that helps you!--Carol
Sleeping Problems During Menopause
Sleeping problems are very common during the menopause transition years. There is no easy "quick fix" for this but there are a few pointers that can help. If your wife is having hot flashes at night, sleeping in a colder room can help, and/or having a small fan on her bedside table pointing at her.
Getting regular rather strong exercise every day can also help. Herbal things such as Valerian capsules are for many people a good sleep aid. I have used Valerian a lot.
I also have taken Calms Forte or Ignatia Amara to help me calm down at bedtime, which can make it easier to sleep.
One important thing is not to get upset and worked up about not sleeping, as that makes it worse.
Good luck with this.
