How Old Where You When You First Experienced Menopause?

How Old Where You When You First Experienced Menopause?

I'm going to be 50 in a few months and have yet to experience any symptoms of menopause. I know my mom was in her mid 40s, so that's what I was expecting. Am I some kind of super-women? Anyone else watching and waiting beyond what you expected?

I am 49

I hit 49 in June..and all of a sudden, I have symptoms
big time. The hot flashes are so annoying and at times embarrassing, I get confused at times, irritable and moody. too. I do not like this at all...I feel like this is not my body anymore, it is a lil scarey.

I am also going to be 50

I am also going to be 50 soon. I had a total hystorectomy at 28yrs old. I have taken many different medications and I still am out of balance. Meneopause has not been my friend. Any suggestions.

Menopause

Hi: I haven't had my period since January 1, 2009, for about a month now I have been feeling hungry like I use to feel before my period, does anybody else have these symptons with peri?

How Old Where You When You First Experienced Menopause?

My first symptoms of menopause was at the age of 57 and finish at 58 years old. I am a super-women?

54 & just starting

Looking back, my hypothyroid and depression are probably early symptoms and are known associates of menopause, but I just had my first hot flashes and lost my first period for my 54th birthday. And, actually, I am LOVING menopause so far! My hot flashes are not bad and are followed by equally intense chills, I actually want to clean my house, and I feel much more in control of myself and my surroundings. So - keep waiting and believe that it's all good!

How Old where You when you first experienced Menopause

Hi Perez000

My name is Elize and I'm turning 35 May, well My Menopause started when I was 33 years old and that's bad, my mother in law still have to get there yet and she's 55 years old so be thankfull for not geting it yet.

Hello Elize, well youre

Hello Elize, well youre pretty lucky heheh, well pretty much alot of people are...i got menopause when i turned 13 so it sucks ...im now 15 and yeah..they dont exaclty know what or why this is happening. im jst the unprivelidged one! hahaha

You can be tested. Check with your Dr

I was just blood tested -- at age 48-1/2--for the most obvious symptom, my period had just absolutely stopped in the Fall. I've had no other symptoms---though my husband says I'm moody, but it's no different than before!! Funny guy. I work out almost daily, try to watch what I eat and am generally healthy, so maybe that helps the symptoms. I couldn't go by maternal history as both Mom and Grandma had hysterectomies at around 40 and I'm the oldest girl in the family. I also am a breast cancer survivor (diagnosed and treated in 2001).

Hi nhworkingmom  can I

Hi nhworkingmom

I had a surgical menopause

I had a surgical menopause at age 43. I thought I had it under control (hot flashes) by willing them not to come but a year later they made up for lost time and I think in your case the same thing may happen. I hope not but usually that is the case from what I know. Sorry

losing my mind!

I went to the dr today and he took some blood for tests. Even if that is the problem I will not take hormones since my mom had them after her hysterectomy and got breast cancer that the doctor told her was from the hormones. Either need all natural options or will do without. I guess that antidepressants are not out of the question though.

Check it out

I had a hysterectomy when I was 36 and found out by making my doctor check my estrogen level, he thought I was just complaining but it was so low it startled him so I got premerin and got my brains back. I had to quit at age 50 but the symptoms are still so awful I had to go back on it. Would not live without it.

Did you have a huge lack of

Did you have a huge lack of sex drive after your hysterectomy. Mine came about 3 years later. Just last week I went to the Drs and started estrogen patch. I didn't know what was happening to me I felt physically, emotionally numb. I felt dead like I didn't have any feelings just negative ones. I really thought I wasn't human. I wanted to feel things happiness, attraqctions, sexual, caring you name it but I just didn't. I hope this estrogen will help. It's been 6 years since my surgical menopause now.

losing my mind!

I am 39 and realized that about 2 months ago I began the moody garbage! I was not happy with ANYTHING OR ANYONE! I am trying to find some natural alternatives to deal with this. Anyone have any suggestions???

clots and hots

I read you begin having symptoms 7 years before menopause. I am 51 and I haven't had a period for over a year. I started getting clotting periods and severe hot flashes about three years ago.

For your sake get some help,

For your sake get some help, it is rediculous to live with severe symptoms.  If men got menopause they would be on meds in a heartbeat.  I hate taking hormones but the option is living hell.

I started peri meno at 39 and it was UGLY! It lasted until I was 50 them my periods started getting stupid. I finally dumped the HRT I had been on forever and let it happen naturally. My last peiod was about 3 months after I weaned off the HRT. I'm 57 now and am all through with it all thank goodness :) She

So I havent lost my mind.

So I havent lost my mind. For the past year, I have been having hot flashes, mood swings, erratic periods ( some early, some late, some long, some short) and the only information I have found on perimenopause has been LIMITED. I am only 38. But the only woman in my family that wasnt forced into menopause via surgery. Though Im sorry to read it took that long to finally reach menopause atleast I know Im not alone in having this start at such an early age.

Over a long time

i startrd peri menapause at 40 and was completely thru by 47

I'm not sure I'm finally finished yet either...

At around 51 or so my periods got eratic, but I still had them till last June, I was 55. Seems like a LONG time when you're going through it.

What d'ya think? It's been 15 months. Think I'm over the last hurdle yet?

BE HAPPY

Be so happy that you haven't experienced any!!!! YAY for you! lol. Maybe you won't! I've been through HELL for 10 years, the past 3 have been the worst. I have the atrophy and it's HORRID!

Sometning else to look forward to...maybe...

My mother who will be 83 in a month, STILL gets hot flashes. Now isn't that special ;-)))
She's had everything checked out and the Dr says he has other 'elderly' women, like her that still get hot flashes.

We're all different!

When we start menstruating, anything from 10-16 years old is considered normal. When we start going through menopause, that happens at different ages for all of us too. I started going through at age 48 & the hot flashes were a bite!!! Someone said to ask my Mom, that would tell me how it would be for me. HA!!!! Mom went through menopause at 47 but never had a hot flash in her life! I had a friend who went through menopause at 35 y.o. I also have a friend who is 56 & just starting with the irregular periods. I'd be more worried if you quite having your periods at an early age than still having your periods at this age. If you're premenopausal, you may be having symptoms & don't realize it yet, some of the changes can be gradual.

And like PyesAngel said, the hair can be a tell tale too. If you see a hair growing out of your ear, on your chin or nose, you'll know those hormones are shifting..... Now isn't that exciting to look forward to???

How Old Were You......

You probably have and don't realise it. Some symptoms are so mild you just pass them off, not realising what they are. Women's systems can start shutting down in their 30's without a woman knowing it. Things just slow down. Other women have symptoms so fierce there's no doubt what's going on. In my case, I didn't start looking for changes til my mid 50's, since my grandmother was in her 60's before she quit. My mother had a hysteroctemy, so I couldn't use her for a guide. So no I wouldn't say you are some kind of super-woman, you just haven't been aware of any changes. Like longer, heavier periods, or shorter periods. Weight gain, boobs saging, hanging lower than before...mood swings, shaving more or less or in places you never had to shave before, like your face or boobs.....feeling warmer or colder....menopause....tons of fun....NOT!
