How Old Where You When You First Experienced Menopause?

How Old Where You When You First Experienced Menopause?

I'm going to be 50 in a few months and have yet to experience any symptoms of menopause. I know my mom was in her mid 40s, so that's what I was expecting. Am I some kind of super-women? Anyone else watching and waiting beyond what you expected?

clots and hots

I read you begin having symptoms 7 years before menopause. I am 51 and I haven't had a period for over a year. I started getting clotting periods and severe hot flashes about three years ago.

Started Peri at 39

I started peri meno at 39 and it was UGLY! It lasted until I was 50 them my periods started getting stupid. I finally dumped the HRT I had been on forever and let it happen naturally. My last peiod was about 3 months after I weaned off the HRT. I'm 57 now and am all through with it all thank goodness :) She

Over a long time

i startrd peri menapause at 40 and was completely thru by 47

I'm not sure I'm finally finished yet either...

At around 51 or so my periods got eratic, but I still had them till last June, I was 55. Seems like a LONG time when you're going through it.

What d'ya think? It's been 15 months. Think I'm over the last hurdle yet?

BE HAPPY

Be so happy that you haven't experienced any!!!! YAY for you! lol. Maybe you won't! I've been through HELL for 10 years, the past 3 have been the worst. I have the atrophy and it's HORRID!

Sometning else to look forward to...maybe...

My mother who will be 83 in a month, STILL gets hot flashes. Now isn't that special ;-)))
She's had everything checked out and the Dr says he has other 'elderly' women, like her that still get hot flashes.

We're all different!

When we start menstruating, anything from 10-16 years old is considered normal. When we start going through menopause, that happens at different ages for all of us too. I started going through at age 48 & the hot flashes were a bite!!! Someone said to ask my Mom, that would tell me how it would be for me. HA!!!! Mom went through menopause at 47 but never had a hot flash in her life! I had a friend who went through menopause at 35 y.o. I also have a friend who is 56 & just starting with the irregular periods. I'd be more worried if you quite having your periods at an early age than still having your periods at this age. If you're premenopausal, you may be having symptoms & don't realize it yet, some of the changes can be gradual.

And like PyesAngel said, the hair can be a tell tale too. If you see a hair growing out of your ear, on your chin or nose, you'll know those hormones are shifting..... Now isn't that exciting to look forward to???

How Old Were You......

You probably have and don't realise it. Some symptoms are so mild you just pass them off, not realising what they are. Women's systems can start shutting down in their 30's without a woman knowing it. Things just slow down. Other women have symptoms so fierce there's no doubt what's going on. In my case, I didn't start looking for changes til my mid 50's, since my grandmother was in her 60's before she quit. My mother had a hysteroctemy, so I couldn't use her for a guide. So no I wouldn't say you are some kind of super-woman, you just haven't been aware of any changes. Like longer, heavier periods, or shorter periods. Weight gain, boobs saging, hanging lower than before...mood swings, shaving more or less or in places you never had to shave before, like your face or boobs.....feeling warmer or colder....menopause....tons of fun....NOT!
