Menopause marks the end of menstruation. For some, it is a celebration. No more annoying periods. For others, it is a sad reminder that the childbearing years are over. A woman enters menopause after she goes twelve months without having a period. For the majority of women, menopause happens between the ages of 45 and 55.
Until a woman is considered menopausal, she is said to be premenopausal, or perimenopausal. At this time, many women endure some rather uncomfortable side effects. But once hormones level off, these symptoms disappear. However, for some women, anxiety, depression, and hot flashes may last for a few years after menopause begins.

Dealing with the Symptoms
- Wear thin layers. When a hot flash comes on, peel off the top layer. Keep a large glass of ice water by your nightstand.
