Menopause is the final menstrual period and usually is when a woman missed her periods for 12 consecutive month. It is associated with reduced functions for the ovaries because of aging which results in lower levels of estrogen and other hormones and means the end of fertility. Menopause usually occurs at an average age of 51.

This is a natural process women go through as they age and end the reproductive period of their lives. Females are born with eggs that the ovaries store. Estrogen and progesterone, produced by the ovaries, regulate a female's menustration and ovulation processes. When the ovaries fail to produce an egg and the menustration process stops, the menopause process begins.
