JK Rowling, who made publishing history with her Harry Potter books, is publishing her first novel for adults, and it has nothing to do with Hogwarts or wizards.
Instead, according to her publisher Little, Brown, Rowling will be focusing on nefarious doings in a provincial English town. The Casual Vacancy, according to Little, Brown, takes place in Pagford , “ seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty facade is a town at war. The empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?”
The book, which will have a $35 price tag, is being published worldwide on Sept. 27.
