AirTran Airways and Southwest Airlines Expand International Routes

Airtran Airways has announced it will add more non-stop and global destination routes on reservations made for dates between June 3, 2012 and August 10, 2012, PR Newswire reported Sunday.

Airtran Airways latest service additions include a new, non-stop route from Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The company celebrated this route launch with super-slashed prices today, with tickets set as low as $69 one-way.

Airtran also added four new direct routes to Mexico, including one from San Antonio to Cancun and Mexico City from May 2012 and one from Orange County, California to Cabo San Lucas and Mexico City from June 2012. Other major additions include services from Denver, Baltimore/Washington D.C., and  Chicago.

Southwest Airlines, which recently acquired Airtran Airways, also announced expanded routes in Houston.  Bob Jordan, Southwest Airlines Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer and Airtran Airways President, believes today’s announcement is “a terrific demonstration of the benefits Southwest's acquisition of Airtran brings Customers," PR Newswire reports.

Both companies hope to offer lower fares on more flights as a result of the recent merger by the earlier half of next year. Southwest Airlines services 73 cities in 38 states and is one of the most-acclaimed airlines around the globe for its commitment to the three industry elements of performance, people and planet, PR Newswire reports.
