An American Staffordshire Terrier who ran away from her Virginia home eight years ago is about to be reunited with her owner after being located in Northern California.
Petunia was three years old when she went missing from Kristen Pruitt's family farm in 2003, and the family never found her despite an extensive search--that is until Wednesday, when Oregon woman Meg Eden found Petunia in the Spenceville Wildlife Area in Yuba County, Calif.
Eden took Petunia to the Yuba County Animal Care Services Shelter Thursday, where employees scanned her for a microchip, which she had, Lt. Damon Gil with the Yuba County Sheriff's Department told Sacramento's News10.
The microchip had been implanted by the Chancellor Veterinarian Clinic in Virginia. Shelter staff then called the clinic, who told them the chip belonged to Petunia. The clinic called Pruitt, who confirmed that her dog had gone missing eight years ago. She identified her long-lost terrier from a photo sent by the Yuba County shelter. Now, arrangements are being made to return the dog to Virginia in time for Christmas, Fox40 reported.
