Teeth Whitening Goes High Tech

One of the annoying tricks passing years tends to play is turning teeth to an unattractive yellow. Now the experts have come up with a teeth whitening system that does the job in just over an hour.

Developed by the US Kreative Inc., the system, now being used in England, uses bright light to restore that toothy sparkle in just over an hour. It’s said to lighten teeth by three dental shades, from yellowish to a light ivory color.

After a protective solution is painted onto the gums, a liquid containing 35 percent hydrogen peroxide is sprayed into the teeth. A pen-shaped handset is then used to beam a bright green light onto each tooth for about a minute, heating the peroxide and speeding up the bleaching.

At about $850, it’s not cheap. But the British dentist Dr. Mervyn Druian, says "So far, the results have been good -- and after treatment, the patients' teeth are not just lighter, they look healthier."
