Praying for World Peace

Here's a quiet way to mark the New Year: Praying for world peace.

The Institute for World Peace Through Prayer and Meditation wants to have 1 billion people around the world praying or meditating at the same time on New Years Eve, hoping that will help create a more peaceful world.

The Institute is run by Robert Schoenfeld in Seattle, who has no obvious institutional tie or ulterior motive.

The Web site has sample prayers, but there's no real structure. The Institute wants everyone to pray or meditate in their own way.
