About three years ago, my wife, upon self-examination, detected a lump in her breast. To the doctor we went, mammogram showed a small mass, lumpectomy followed, malignancy found and then lymph node removal, to find if it had spread.
Lymph nodes were clear, radiation followed. Recent mammogram, still clear.
Two years ago, my youngest daughter, upon self-examination, went through the same process, except she had chemotherapy along with the radiation. A recent mammogram for her was clear.
Now, we were all devastated with the first occurrence. You can imagine when the second one came along. We all survived. Women must self-examine; do not be afraid. If discovered soon enough, breast cancer can be cured. The above facts prove it. "Ssiggie" is a 72-year-old retiree living in Rocky Hill, Conn. He can be reached at ssiggie@aol.com.
