Lower Blood Pressure Naturally

Aside from taking the medication prescribed by your doctor, there is a simple way you can help your body reach a lower blood pressure rate, say researchers at the Xi'an Medical Sciences University in northwest China.

They suggest taking potassium and calcium supplements together to help your body get rid of salt, which brings your blood pressure down. Professor Liu Zhiquan began looking at excess salt and high blood pressure in 1987. He says Chinese people eat a lot of salty foods, consuming an average of more than 10 grams a day.

His research finds that a study group of 300 people with high blood pressure who took calcium and potassium supplements for two years lowered their blood pressures by an average of 4 millimeters. In comparison, a control group that did not take supplements saw blood pressure levels rise.

Good sources of potassium and calcium include milk and beans. Zhiquan advises against eating too much sausage and preserved foods, which are high in salt content.
