What Are Your Cancer Chances?

Family history is a strong consideration when determining cancer risk. Now, there's a computer program that calculates the odds of a woman getting breast and ovarian cancers.

Prevention Online says doctors are using CancerGene, a free, user-friendly computer program. It takes in your family's medical history to determine your odds.

The program starts with a 20-minute risk-assessment. A second office visit involves meeting with a counselor to discuss the program's findings.

At the site, you'll find links to sites about breast cancer risk and preventive treatment, including the Lahey Risk Assessment Clinic. For more information about the data and research behind the program, click on CancerGene.
