We find ourselves at the very beginning of a new year. It's a year that finds the world in turmoil, with its citizens looking for deeper meaning and more connection. We are all working towards conscious expansion in our love lives. The techniques Tantra offers can open doors to deeper, more connected relationships.
On New Year's Eve, I drew the card "Horse Play" from a beautiful Tarot deck that was created years ago by Penney Slinger, who helped bring Tantra to this generation of Western people. When I first read the card, my Western mind thought "rough and tumble, pushy, and play of no consequence." Yet in Hindu cosmology, the Horse represents Wisdom. Thus, the card's real interpretation is transcendence to Wisdom through imagination and spontaneity -- in other words - through play!
So as you gather your commitments and resolutions for 2002, consider adding dimension to your love life with playful new techniques. The wild, good energy of playfulness in sexuality -- as in life -- is a healthy thing to remember. We adults can get pretty serious these days!
Here are some things to consider as you form your New Year possibilities:
Be good to yourself. We are all a part of the universal spirit, so treat yourself as the Goddess or God.
Take a playful risk in loving, whether you are partnered or not. Each of you will know what this means for you.
Learn something new, sexually, about yourself, for yourself. Discover your G-spot, learn to expand your capacity for receiving erotic touch, or, for men expand your capacity for lasting longer before and enjoying an expanded version of your orgasm. Do this from an innocent, playful perspective.
Learn something profoundly new about another. Be open and vulnerable with your partner or a close friend. Ask them to tell you something about their sexuality that they might be afraid to say, something that they might desire or wish for or something that they feel they can never have.
Consider sexuality a golden gift in your life. Expand that gift to be ever more satisfying. Talk more openly with close friends about sex. They will appreciate how natural it will become for you and that will affect their lives, too.
Through spontaneous imagination, create a playful evening of expansive sexuality. Get bold and adventuresome. Hold the intention that your whole year will flow with that same energy.
Practice telling others how grateful you are for everything in your life. When we expand our sexual nature, we feel more full of life, more whole and, therefore, happier. You'll naturally exude this kind of energy when your love connections are deeper and more satisfying. Let your love light show!
Tantra is about expansion and transformation. It uses sexuality as its vehicle to the destination of higher consciousness. And when we become masters at sexual play, we become masters at life play. May your new year be full of play!
