Barack Obama's Visit with the Ladies on The View

Barack Obama has done one more thing in his long list of accomplishments. He's been a guest on his wifes favorite show, ABCs The View. Earlier today, President Obama dished about the roses and thorns of presidency, the latest on celebrity culture, and even the Chelsea Clintons wedding.

I was not invited, the President admitted when asked if he was planning to attend the Clinton festivities. It would be tough to have one President at a wedding. You dont want two. He then followed up with a joke about how their guests would have to walk through metal detectors and all the gifts would be opened by the Secret Service.

Im letting you guys know now, you all probably will not be invited to Malias wedding, he smiled.

This is the first Presidential appearance on The View, a show primarily with baby boomer generation women. Obama charmed the hostesses and audiences at the show and home by answering all kinds of questions ranging from his views on Lindsay Lohan, whats on his iPod, and recent polls that have put his approval rating below 50 percent.

With the recent USDA controversy with Shirley Sherrod, Obama was asked how this issue depicted Americas race relations and what direction we are moving in as a country. Race- an issue that has long been a part of the American history and changing culture was expected to die down as soon as Obama, the first black American to step into office. So has it died down?

I think what happened in that situation was a 24/7 media cycle thats always looking for controversygenerated a phony controversy. A lot of people overreacted, including people in my administration. Obama answered. He also touched up on the latest stimulus. The shows conservative point of view, via Elizabeth Hasselbeck, asked whether he felt he was really creating and saving jobs. He replied, It makes a difference if your job was one of the ones saved. States got hammered as a result of the financial crisis. If we had not provided immediate assistance to the states, they would have had to fire teachers, police, and fire-fighters. This was not just a matter of jobs for those people but the services lostWere bouncing back, but not bouncing back as quickly as we need to, said the President. He also discussed something closer to home: family and his romantic story with his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama. When asked which were his high and low points by Barbara Walters, who recently returned to the show after major heart surgery, he simply answered that the high point was when he was on vacation with his family in Maine and his low pointWhere do I begin, he lightly joked,"Obviously the country has gone through a tough stretch. Since I took office when I was sworn in ... the last 20 months have been a nonstop effort to restart the economy, to stabilize the financial system, to make sure we are creating jobs and not losing them. As much as you've been saying it's tough for me, the truth is, it's not tough for me. You know I've got pundits on the news who might say things, but what the American people have gone throughlosing jobs, seeing their home values go down, their 401ks declining -- those are the people that I draw inspiration from because I get letters every night from them and I read them".
