Burt Reynolds is facing a court battle over his home, after a bank has sought to foreclose on the actor’s Florida home so it can collect about $1.2m for a mortgage.

Merrill Lynch Credit has filed a lawsuit against Reynolds, Bank Atlantic and Great Eastern Mortgage, AP reports.

The bank is claiming the Emmy Award-winning actor has not made a mortgage payment since September 1, 2010 on the 12,500-sq ft house.

Merrill Lynch is asking a judge to order the home sold to satisfy debts. A property appraiser valued the Mediterranean-style home at $2.4m.

Reynolds (75) tried to sell the home in 2009 for $8.9m, but he said then that the economy had made it hard to sell, The Stuart News reports.

The “Boogie Nights” star said in a statement through his publicist Wednesday that he was surprised by the lawsuit.

"I am as surprised as everyone. I thought my career and my life could not be going better,” he said, reports USA Today.

“To all of the people who have had such faith in me and stuck by me through thick and thin, thank you. I know it is not the end of the world,” Reynolds said.

He said that “there are a hell of a lot of other people worse off than I am, and my heart goes out to them,” USA Today reports.

“I will do like I've always done, keep my head up high and continue to move on down the road,” Reynolds vowed.
