Caroline Kilel of Kenya won the Women's Race in Debut at the Boston Marathon, once again shutting the Americans out of winning the race.
The long-distance runner barely beat Desiree Davila of the United States, sprinting past her and winning the marathon by two seconds with a time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 36 seconds.
According to the Associated Press, no woman from the US has won the marathon since 1985 when Lisa Larsen-Weidenbach took the title
"I'm happy because I won a close one," said Kilel in the Boston Globe. "I love Boston. I would love to run here many times if they invite me. I feel very happy."
BleacherReport adds that this is only Kilel's second marathon win, after winning in Frankfurt earlier in the season.
Kilel also holds a gold medal with her team for the 2009 World Half Marathon Championships held in Birmingham, UK.
