Transgender reality television star Chaz Bono has proposed, it would seem, to longtime girlfriend Jennifer Elia, People Magazine reports. The proposal will be broadcast Sunday on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) premiere of Bono's “Being Chaz.”
In a video clip streaming currently at People.com, Bono, 42, gives to Elia a diamond ring — a “birthday present,” he calls it — although some form of the question “will you marry me?” is never actually uttered.
“It's gorgeous. Thank you so much,” Elia tells a grinning Bono. “It's stunning. It's huge.”
Says Elia, philosophically (or, possibly, descriptively, of the ring), “It's heavy s___, man.”
Whether that constitutes a yes (to Bono's amorphous seeming-proposal) is as yet unknown. More details may be revealed Sunday 8 p.m. Eastern time, when “Being Chaz” — a one-hour follow-up to Bono's Emmy-nominated documentary “Becoming Chaz” — receives its premiere.
Also featured on People.com is a clip in which Elia laments the ill-feelings stirred by Bono's participation in “Dancing with the Stars.”
“People feel so angry that Chaz is entering their televisions,” an emotional Elia says. “People who make change get shot, and I don't think that's worth it. … This is insane. It's not worth doing a show if you're going to get shot.”
