Christopher Schwarzenegger Hospitalized After Surfing Accident

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver arrive at the Church of St. Thomas More in New York Friday, July 23, 1999 for a quiet Mass to celebrate the lives of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy.

Christopher Schwarzenegger, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son, has been hospitalized after falling off a boogie board last weekend, the New York Daily News reports.

Schwarzenegger, 13, suffered a collapsed lung and some broken bones.

Arnold and Maria Shriver, Christopher’s mother, have reunited with one another in the hospital where their son is being treated. They released a joint statement on Friday.

"While it has been a very scary week, Christopher is surrounded by his family and friends," the statement read, according to the New York Daily News. "He is a brave boy and is expected to make a full recovery. On behalf of our entire family, we want to sincerely thank the paramedics and lifeguards who responded so swiftly as well as the doctors, nurses, emergency room and hospital staff who have cared for our son. They have been extraordinary to him and to us."

Katherine Schwarzenegger, 21, Christopher’s older sister, posted on Twitter, "Thank you guys for ur concern and prayers for my baby brother! He's a tough little guy and getting better! Please keep praying for him! Xo."

The news of the accident came a day after Arnold filed new divorce paperwork saying he did not want a judge to award spousal support to Shriver, who plans to seek it.
