Craigslist Ad Nets Florida Woman New Kidney

A Craigslist ad resulted in a Florida woman scoring the ultimate deal--a new kidney.

In July, Selina Hodge, 28, now recovering in a Miami hospital, posted an ad online looking for a kidney donor, telling WPTV she "didn't know where else to turn."

The ad proved effective, earning her more than 800 responses from concerned people around the world who saw her plea, including Stephanie Grant, 23.

"It just amazes me that somebody would actually lay down their life for a complete stranger," Gina Evans, Hodge's mother, told WFLX.

Grant lived a few miles away from Hodge in Palm Beach Gardens, and the two underwent transplant surgery Tuesday after driving together for evaulations at the University of Miami Medical Center. They are both recovering well after surgery, said their families, who met just before the procedure and said a prayer together.

"Living donors are very unique individuals," Dr. Linda Chen of the Jackson Memorial Hospital at the university told WFLX. "They are the true heroes in society because they are completely selfless and they have nothing to gain from the procedure and it's actually a gift of love."
