Daniel Radcliffe Replaced by Darren Criss of Glee in "How to Succeed"

Daniel Radcliffe will be replaced by Darren Criss of Glee in the Broadway musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Criss, 24, who plays Blaine Anderson on the popular Fox show, will take over the Harry Potter star's role of J. Pierrepont Finch, a window washer who aims to climb the ranks at the World Wide Wickets Company in New York City. Criss will appear in the show, which marks his first Broadway appearance, until January 22, organizers announced Monday.

The musical is based on a satirical self-help book and stars John Larroquette as J.B. BIggley, the president of the firm: its current run is a revival of a 1960s show. Radcliffe, 22, has played Finch since the musical opened in previews in February. He will exit the show on January 1, when his contract is set to expire. Larroquette won a Tony for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical.

Criss's character on Glee is the lead singer of a rival club who is involved in a relationship with a male member of the main club. Criss, who hails from San Francisco, has stated that, as a child, he listened to cast record recordings of musicals such as Les Miserables as well as pop songs. He later began writing and performing music when he got older.

The current revival of How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is running at Broadway's Al Hirschfield Theatre and has earned more than $22 million at the box office.  Radcliffe's role in How to Succeed marked his Broadway musical debut. Previously, he had starred in the play Equus in New York and London, for which he famously got naked.   Radcliffe's first film outside of the Potter franchise recently wrapped. The Woman in Black is a supernatural thriller that will be released in 2012.
