Danroy Henry, Pace University Football Player, Killed by Police in Mount Pleasant, N.Y.

Danroy Henry, aPace University football player,was fatally shot by police early Sunday outside a bar in Mount Pleasant, N.Y., police and school officials said.The Boston Globe reported Danroy Henry, 20, of Easton, Mass., was behind the wheel of a car parked in a fire lane near Finnegan's Grill when police officers breaking up a brawl approached him. Henry allegedly drove off when one officer knocked on the driver's window. A second officer tried to stop the car but the driver accelerated, striking that officer and a third officer who tried to grab the officer from the car hood, police said.

The officer clinging to the hood and another officer fired at Henry and the car came to a stop after striking a police cruiser.

Henry was dead at the scene, police said. A passenger in his car, who was not a Pace student, received a minor gunshot wound.

Four police officers were hurt, police said.

The names of the officers who fired shots were not released, the Globe said.

Pace University President Stephen J. Friedman issued a statement extending condolences to Henry's family and friends.
