"Deadliest Catch" Stars Renegotiate Contracts & Return to Series
Deadliest Catch starsCaptain Andy and Jonathan Hillstrand and Captain Sig Hansen have renegotiated a contract for two additional seasons with the series, a network rep confirms.Weeks after announcing their exit from the hit Discovery Channel show the Deadliest Catch, tension between the trio and the network arose when the three stars were unable to finish work on their new Discovery series, entitled Hillstranded, because the filming conflicted with the trios national speaking tour.
Problems quickly escalated mid-September when Discovery sued the brothers for $3 million, claiming that the stars had refused to complete work on their series. A week after, on September 28th, the Hillstrands announced that they were departing the show due to ongoing litigation with the network. Hansen, though not involved in the lawsuit, soon left the series in support of the siblings. As part of the settlement, Discoverys lawsuit will be dropped, and the Hillstrands will complete filming on their spinoff, Hillstranded.
In a statement, the trio stated that they were pleased that negotiations had panned out with Discovery, and were looking forward to filming the new season of Deadliest Catch, Discoverys most popular franchise. Additionally, Hillstranded, a series of specials where the brothers will investigate legends centered in Alaska, including a local legend about a Lochness-type monster, is set to air after the Deadliest Catch in April 2011.
