Diet plans are popular because society promotes losing weight as being an accomplishment. For baby boomers, that may just be the case. But a good diet plan is what you need, something that will guarantee a healthy way to lose weight, not a crash diet.
According to the U.S. News & World Report, a crash diet is no way to lose weight. This particular diet plan will shed the pounds, but the consequences outweigh the benefits. Chairman of preventive medicine at the Mayo Clinic Donald Hensrud argues against crash diets as a way to lose weight.
You might be able to get away with it for a period of time, but the more restrictive [the diet] is and the longer you follow it the greater the risks, Hensrud said.
In just one week of overly restrictive dieting, your metabolism can be altered, you can develop serious nutritional deficiencies, and most importantly you undercut your emotional well-being, U.S. News reported.
What does work with a diet plan is drinking water, British newspaper Mirror reported.
According to the paper, a 12-week study of 48 people aged 55-75 showed that the group that drank two cups of water before each meal lost 15.5 pounds on average, compared to the group that didnt drink water before each meal which lost 11 pounds.
Dr. Brenda Davy, senior author of the survey, says a simple way to manage weight is to drink more water and less sugary drinks.
When it comes down to it, add water to your diet plan, and stick to a lasting one.
