A dietary supplement recall has been ordered by Healthy People Co. after seven of its dietary supplements were found to contain drug ingredients used for appetite suppressants and correctors for male erectile dysfunction. According to Reuters, no reports of death or injury from the mix-up have reached the California-based company.
Five of the supplements were found to contain the appetite suppressant sibutramine, which include Mince Belle, Everlax, Ever Slim, Ever Slim Shake Mix Dietary Supplement Strawberry and Ever Slim Shake Mix Dietary Supplement Chocolate.
The remaining two supplements contain tadalafil, an additive used to treat male erective dysfunction. Affected products include Perfect Men Dietary Supplement and Herbal Drink Acai-man Mangosteen Dietary Supplement.
All seven products were sold at the company’s store in Irwindale, California, Reuters said.
Sibutramine was withdrawn from the U.S. market after it was found to increase the blood pressure or heart rate of some patients, though it is sold as an FDA-approved appetite suppressant drug to treat obesity. Tadalafil, meanwhile, may interact with nitrates in prescription drugs like nitroglycerin to lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. This especially affects diabetics and people who have high blood pressure or heart disease.
The recall was reported to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the agency now carries a statement from Healthy People Co. on its website .
