Dow Jones Industrial average numbers: in midmorning trading, the Dow Jones Industrial average gained 74.02 points, 0.72%, to 10,394.12. Other markets on Wall Street rose for the third consecutive day Friday despite a slight upswing in the U.S. unemployment rate.The Standard & Poor's 500 index added 0.77 percent, 8.34, to 1,098.44. The Nasdaq composite index gained 0.99 percent, 21.89, to 2,221.90.The Department of Labor said the unemployment rate in August rose to 9.6 percent from 9.5 percent.But the uptick was widely expected -- it was expected, in fact, a month ago -- meaning many investors adjusted their positions in advance of the announcement.According to Market Watch of the Wall Street Journal, the Dow Jones Industrial average gained 1%, 106 points in the afternoon trading. This gives the Dow its first positive showing since the beginning of August and the measures best pre-Labor Day run since 1990, Market Watch reported.
