Dr. Phil was caught in a chain of emails trying to take an exclusive interview away from Oprah, the woman who discovered him.
Legal documents filed in a lawsuit against Dr. Phil for allegedly defaming two men involved in the Natalee Holloway case, the girl who disappeared in Aruba, were obtained by TMZ.
Oprah had scheduled an exclusive interview with Natalees mom, Beth, on Sept. 20, 2005. Dr. Phil had been working on obtaining an interview with Beth as well.
The documents reveal several emails between Dr. Phil and his staff. An email to Dr. Phil from one of the shows producers lays out a plan after discovering Oprah had scheduled an interview with Beth. "But we can OUT SCOOP Oprah & do the show w/ her first no matter what we find tomorrow we still have an interesting show - plus only YOU can really help."
Dr. Phil, using the initials DPM (Dr. Phil McGraw) responded via email, We definitely need to scoop the deal so if we need to shoot this week then lets do it. He then added, If she (Beth) tells the Oprah people about us they will likely attempt to derail it by moving up their schedule.
The producer wrote back, Grea[t] & she wont say anything to oprahs (sic) peeps she knows it would jeopardize what we are doing- Ill email you both tomorrow as soon as I talk to Jamie & we can go from there!! Yippie scoopen (sic) the big O!!
Dr. Phil and Oprah have yet to comment.
