Green Bay Packers play the Philadelphia Eagles in todays wild-card playoff game, and a Packers win could bring in money for some Northeastern Wisconsin charities.
"When something happens that makes the community feel good, that often means people are more likely to get involved" in community activities, said Adam Hardy, spokesman for the Green Bay-based United Way of Brown County.
Its hard to determine what the actual impact would be on agencies, but some players have foundations whose charitable work continues throughout the year. For example, donations could be generated if a certain player were to get a touchdown, since that would prompt the broadcaster to mention the players foundation.
In the weeks before Christmas, players could be found doing a range of community events such as taking children shopping for gifts at a Shopko, singing carols in De Pere with families of children with cancer, and playing kickball with kids at a Boys & Girls Club in Green Bay.
