Green Energy Tips are being made available by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Green Energy Tips are geared towards homeowners.
In a release, the EPA suggests that by implementing environmentally friendly improvements, homeowners could increase the value of their homes by as much as 25 percent, West Virginia newspaper The Register-Herald reported.
While they can be expensive, solar panels, skylights, Energy Star appliances, programmable thermostats and low-flow faucets can all add value to a home and will be worth the investment when it is time to sell, the EPA suggests.
Other suggestions include planting shade trees, using sustainable wood materials for renovations and additions.
Sustainable wood is the newest trend in building and includes materials such as river wood, managed or certified forest wood, reclaimed or salvaged wood, and standing dead timbers.
Another trend the EPA mentioned is laying adobe floors, which provide natural insulation for heat and cooling.
