Iran Nuclear Site is Fueling Up, Reports Say

Irans nuclear site is said to start fueling up this weekend, the Financial Times reports. After more than three decades of delays in construction and setbacks, Russia announced Friday that it will start loading fuel into Irans first nuclear power plant in Bushehr on August 21.The fueling of the plant reactor will make the Bushehr site an official nuclear power site. Iranian officials hope the plant will formally open shortly thereafter, FT reports.According to FOX News, internationally renowned nuclear proliferation expert Mark Fitzpatrick says that not only does Iran not need fuel for the reactor, it cant even manufacture the fuel for Bushehr.Only Russia can produce fuel for that reactor, said Fitzpatrick. Iran doesnt have a fuel production line. It doesnt have the specifications from Russia for this reactor.Iran also intends to construct more nuclear power plants and welcomes cooperation from the West, a senior Iranian legislator said.Alaeddin Borouyjerdi, head of the Parliaments national security and foreign policy commission, told the Fars news agency plans are under way to build more plants. The power plants that we build, or others will build for us, will need fuel and this is the reason for our uranium enrichment, and Darkhoveyn will be the first of such nuclear power plants, Borouyjerdi said.
