Jack the Cat Found in JFK Airport Alive

Jack the Cat went missing at the JFK airport in August after slipping out of his carrier.

Jack the cat, the feline made famous for escaping his carrier at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in August, has been found alive and well inside the airport. According to the Los Angeles Times, American Airlines posted the happy news on Facebook two months after Jack first went missing.

“American Airlines is happy to announce that Jack the Cat has been found at JFK airport,” the company wrote. “American’s team of airport employees have been focused on the search effort since Jack escaped on August 25, 2011. Jack was found in the customs room and was immediately taken by team members to a local veterinarian.”

The airline added that because the cat has been on his own for such an extended period of time, he will need to remain in the care of a veterinarian for “an additional period.” Jack’s owner has been informed of the developments and understands that her cat cannot travel due to the care and treatment he is receiving.

The LA Times reported that Jack “is stable but will need treatment for at least the next three to five days.” The cat contracted fatty liver disease, a condition that occurs when a cat hasn’t eaten in some time. His fragile health prevents him from being operated on, but he is being fed through a nasal tube.

According to Jacks’ veterinarian, the cat has about a 50 percent chance of surviving the ordeal.
