Jellyfish Tank Pets Now Available In Custom Aquarium

San Francisco aquarium designer Alex Andon has devised a system to allow people to keep jellyfish as tank pets.

Aquarium-keepers looking for jellyfish tank pets are in luck--a San Francisco designer has created a special tank just for them.

According to NBC Bay Area, jellyfish can't live in regular tanks, since they get sucked into the filtration system. But Alex Andon has found a way to prevent that from happening, and he's taken to funding site Kickstarter to raise money to build his special aquariums.

"It was clear people absolutely loved to watch jellyfish, but nobody had made the necessary tanks and food to allow people to own them as pets," Andon's company, Jellyfish Art, wrote on its Web site.

Andon got his start designing large custom tanks for businesses, featuring distinct water patterns and remote-control operated LEDs. Now on Kickstarter, anyone who pledges $350 to the project can have a jellyfish tank for his or her very own, as well as a discount on three live moon jellyfish, a non-stinging species.

As of Wednesday, the Kickstarter project had raised over $90,000. It comes to an end Sept. 12, when the tanks will become available. Jellyfish Art also sells jellyfish tank pets and food through its Web site.
