Johnny Depp: "I'm In" for 21 Jump Street Cameo

Johnny Depp may be known for his eccentric, quirky persona that radiates through all of his movie roles, but back in the 1980s, the superstar was just another teen heartthrob on the TV series 21 Jump Street.

And it looks like Depp is heading back to his teen idol rootswhile doing a Paris press junket for The Tourist, the 47-year-old star said he was excited to do a cameo for the new film adaption of the 80s show.

"I've said I'm into it, but no one's actually approached me, Depp said, in an interview with MTV.

Just last month, the films star, Jonah Hill, said he had penned a cameo for Depp and hoped the star would agree to do the part: Just do it, dude. Don't be an a--hole," he joked.

But it seems that Depp has yet to be contacted.

"Call him. I'm in. I'm in," Depp said. "I think it'd be pretty easy."

No details have been revealed on whether Depp would reprise his role as Officer Tom Hanson or if he would step into a new part, but one thing is for sure, the new film will take a darker turn than its predecessor.

[The film] is a hard-core, R-rated movie, Hill said, and said the story revolves around undercover cops returning to high school as students for investigative work.

Either way, with Depp all in for the cameo, it seems that Hill just needs to give the star a call. Because 21 Jump Street without Depp is like The Simpsons without Homerit just doesnt work.

The film, costaring Channing Tatum, is currently in preproduction and is slated for an Aug. 5 2011 release.
