Josh Hamilton Celebrates Rangers Victory with Ginger Ale Shower
Josh Hamilton struggled with drug and alcohol addiction in his past, so he was unable to celebrate the Rangers' victory over the Rays in the customary way. But in a display of solidarity, his teammates found another way to include him in the evening's festivities. The Rangers, showing respect for the trials and tribulations Josh Hamilton has gone through in his life, held off their champagne and beer celebration for 10 minutes in the visiting clubhouse at Tropicana Field last night so Hamilton could celebrate with them. They showered the center fielder with ginger ale and Hamilton was deeply touched by the gesture."It was amazing, just to get a taste of what a celebration is actually like," Hamilton said in a hallway outside the clubhouse as his teammates partied inside after the ALDS clinching 5-1 win over the Rays. "They didn't bring alcohol in for 10 minutes. The guys doused me good, gave me a lot of hugs and congratulations. It says a lot about my teammates about not wanting to send the wrong message."He then smiled, held up a bottle of the pop and said, "This stuff burns your eyes just like the other stuff."Hamilton struggled in the ALDS. He is coming off a rib injury and batted only .111. He said the injury is still a problem and is looking forward to resting before the ALCS starts against the Yankees Friday in Arlington."The biggest thing for me was to help them anyway I could," he said."Playing the Yankees means a lot because the Yankees are the ones who put us out in the first round all these years," Hamilton said. "So to play them in the American League Championship [Series] is a welcome challenge, it really is."
