Katie Couric to Host Stand Up to Cancer

Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer and Brian Williams will host the 'Stand Up to Cancer' telethon scheduled to air at 8 pm eastern on Friday, September 10th. The telethon will include more than 100 celebrities and be broadcast to armed forces around the world. 'Stand up to Cancer' is a charitable program founded by the Enterainment Industry. Its first telethon was in 2008, which raised more than $100 million dollars for research.

Kyra Sedgwick, Jay Leno and Ryan Seacrest also have been added to the list for the hourlong fundraiser, to be simulcast commercial-free by ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and a number of cable channels.

Other previously announced stars include Sally Field, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, George Clooney, Diane Lane, Marcia Cross and Mark Harmon.

Donations to the telecast are intended to fund innovative cancer research. The first telethon, in 2008, helped raise more than $100 million.

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) is a charitable program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) established by media, entertainment and philanthropic leaders who have been affected by cancer. SU2C aims to raise significant funds for translational cancer research through online and televised efforts. Central to the program is a telethon that was televised by three major broadcast networks (ABC, NBC, CBS) in over 170 countries on September 5, 2008. SU2C made over $100 million after that evenings broadcast.
