A California couple were married over Skype recently after a lung infection landed the groom in the isolation ward of a hospital.
Samuel Kim and Helen Oh had friends and family members traveling from as far away as their native Korea and from New York to their planned wedding ceremony.
However, when Kims health landed him in the hospital right before the wedding the couple had to think quickly. They held the ceremony via the Web video conferencing system.
"Guests said it was inspirational, they really admired my wife for being able to stand at the altar in the manner that she did, alone and not crying the whole time," Kim told Reuters from his bed at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
"She was able to hold her ground and I was able to hold my ground, not crying or anything," he said.
During the ceremony, Samuel apologized for not being able to physically stand at the altar, before promising to be a perfect husband who would make up for that one day.
This doesnt appear to be the first time that Skype has been used by people wanting to tie the knot. A British couple reportedly had a Skype wedding after they got stuck at the airport in Dubai due to the Icelandic volcano eruption last year.
Have you heard of anyone else getting married over Skype?
