Mass Animal Deaths Not That Strange of a Phenomenon

Mass animal deaths are not as uncommon as people think. Deaths of birds have been reported in various places around the US as well as Sweden, but the Orange County Register and Reuters reports that it it not a rare phenomenon.

Along with birds, there have been tons of thousands and thousands of fish lost, as well as other sea life. Most often, it is due to the weather. For example, many birds can suddenly go dead from being struck by lightning or from a hail storm, or the waterspouts or tornadoes in the ocean can be the cause of thousands of fish dying, reports Reuters.

In some cases, the mass animal deaths can be caused by human interference, such as a truck running into birds, or the birds flying into electrical wires, even fireworks.

"This is a classic example of freak events coinciding," said Petter Boeckman, a zoologist at the Norwegian Natural History Museum told Reuters. Otherwise, the events would not have gained as much attention as they have.
