Matt Barnes, forward for the Los Angeles Lakers, was arrested for domestic violence near Sacramento yesterday, although he claims that he was the victim in the incident. Barnes has also been charged for obstructing the use of a telephone line.
According to the Sacramento Bee, Barnes was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail Wednesday night following a physical confrontation with a woman believed to be his girlfriend.
The story states Barnes prevented her from talking to 911 operators and both had visible injuries. According to the newspaper, Barnes posted a $50,000 bond and was released. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
According to USAToday.com, the basketball player texted Channel 10 reporter Bryan May with the following message to defend himself:
"U know any domestic violence situation 9 outa 10 times the man gets arrested. That's the case here I was the victim but still got arrested. No matter what I say people are gonna think what they want..."
