Mel Gibson is returning to the big screen in The Beaver.
Gibson plays Walter Black, a man described in the trailer as "a hopelessly depressed individual".
His character finds solace by talking through a beaver hand-puppet.
"The Beaver", is directed by Jody Foster.
Gibson has taken a hit publicly as well as professionally.
It's his first movie following months of embarrassing public feuding with ex-lover Oksana Grigorieva.
The Australian actor is also being investigated by LA authorities over domestic abuse allegations with his Russian ex.
He originally signed to Hangover 2 but was dropped off the movie after the complaints of his potential co-stars.
He was also let go from his Hollywood talent agency.
