Migraine: Not a Headache!

Migraine, as opposed to headaches, can cause debilitating pain for many individuals who suffer from the intense throbs that can lingerfor hours and sometimes days. Headaches, on the other hand, are not as severe or as chronic, but can be just as uncomfortable.

According to the Migraine Research Foundation, migraines can be accompanied by several other symptoms including: visual disturbances, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, extreme sensitivity to sound, light, touch and smell, and tingling or numbness in the extremities or face.

The foundation also explains that migraines are considered to be a syndrome and describe it as a collection of symptoms which arise from a common cause [and are] classified according to the grouping of its symptoms. Since symptoms vary widely, migraine is often misdiagnosed.

Unfortunately, no cures currently exist; however, medications and treatments are available which may help to alleviate some of the pain and symptoms. Consult with your physician if you may be suffering from migraines to help determine the best treatment plan. For more information about migraines visit www.migraineresearchfoundation.org.
