The Motorola Xoom 2 tablet is set to be released this month to consumers in the U.K. and Ireland. According to CNET news, both a traditional 10-inch tablet and an 8.2-inch Xoom 2 Media Edition will be available.
The stats on the Xoom 2 include a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, an Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system and Wi-Fi connectivity. The Xoom 2 also sports a 1.3-megapixel camera in front and a 5-megapixel camera in back, both of which contain digital zoo, auto focus and LED flash. Memory capacity is also the same between both tablets—the Xoom 2 and the Xoom 2 Media Edition feature 1 gigabyte of RAM and 16GB of storage. Both tablets are encased with Corning’s Gorilla glass and sprayed with a special slash-guard coating that helps resist stains and make the tablets more durable.
The tablets can stream music wirelessly, display photos and videos and share content with a user’s PC.
According to CNET, releasing the Xoom 2 is a bit of a gamble for Motorola. The original Xoom, which was launched in February, largely failed to impress consumers and market analysts. Only about 100,000 of the tablets were sold during the initial two months, and another 100,000 were sold for the third quarter that ended in September.
In a stark contrast, more than 11 million Apple iPads were sold during that same period.
