National Tea Party Announces Presidential Summit Contenders

The National Tea Party has announced that Michele Bachmann will join its presidential summit along with four other GOP contenders, according to an announcement today by the Americans for Prosperity Foundation.

Bachmann has held a central role in the Tea Party and has been expressing interest in the presidency since last year. After intense fundraising and promotions, she has now outearned Mitt Romney in fundraising for the first quarter, according to Online Journal.

In a Tea Party rally in Washington yesterday, Bachmann voiced pride and hope for the future of the party. "We are one today, she told the crowd of a few hundred. We are one, standing together for resuming fiscal sanity in the United States," she said. "So, I'm here to say, be encouraged stand strong, hold your member of Congress and senator's feet to the fire, because the American people are with you, and we will prevail."

Bachmann will join Romney and other potential contenders including former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty, pizza magnate Herman Cain, and former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum.

"We are glad to have Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann's participation in this first major presidential discussion on spending and job creation," AFPF President Tim Phillips said in a statement. "Congresswoman Bachmann's views and insight into these issues facing the American people will be a welcome addition to this must-attend summit."
