Newark Liberty International Airport Debuts Body Scanners

Newark Liberty International Airport will soon make use of body scanning machines. Air travelers passing through the airport will soon feel a little more exposed, if they're not already. Beginning Thursday, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will debut the new, high-tech body scanners at the Newark Airport.

The machine creates a computerized image of a person's body and give TSA screeners the ability to check for any weapons.

TSA officials demonstrated the machines Thursday at the Newark Liberty Airport, and also procedures to protext passengers' privacy.

The new technology is optional for all passengers. Last week the scanners debuted at Kennedy Airport. Currently there are more than 300 machines in use at 65 airports around the country.
