Oprah Winfrey is debuting a new television program in January with her new series “Oprah’s Next Chapter” on her network OWN.
Reuters reported that her new show, debuting months after the end of “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” will focus on interviewing celebrities outside of the studio. The first show, debuting on New Year’s Day, will feature an interview with Aerosmith frontman and “American Idol” judge Steven Tyler.
Other celebrities Oprah will be interviewing include actor Sean Penn visiting Haiti, director George Lucas at the Skywalker Ranch and celebrity cook Paula Deen at her Georgia estate.
“After 25 years, I got myself out of the studio chairs,” Winfrey said as quoted by the Los Angeles Times. “I moved into the next chapter, and I am having more fun than ever — moving around the country and the world talking to people I'm really interested in getting to know and I think viewers will be, too.”
The Los Angeles Times also reported that network OWN is struggling to attracting viewers, with a prime-time talk show hosted by Rosie O’Donnell floundering despite premiering with nearly half a million tuning in to the program. Winfrey confidant Gayle King is leaving her talk show on the cable network for CBS’s “The Early Show” early next year.
