McCartney To Sing For The Queen

Paul McCartney, Others to Perform at Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert

Sir Paul McCartney will be joining a star-studded lineup of British performers this summer to honor Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. According to CBS News, the June 4 concert will also feature Elton John, Shirley Bassey, Annie Lennox, Jessi J, Tom Jones and popular boy band JLS.

The announcement was made by Buckingham Palace Tuesday, and broadcast through the BBC. Palace officials said more names will be added to the lineup at a later date.

Those interested in attending will have to hope they are one of 10,000 people to be awarded a ticket through a lottery of ballots. Winners will also receive entry into the palace garden for a picnic. For those who are not so lucky, the concert will be broadcast on both television and radio.

Anglophiles and music lovers in the United States will be able to see highlights of the concert the following day on ABC.

The event is being organized by Gary Barlow, a musician with the British group Take That. He announced his anticipation for the event through a released statement.

“The Diamond Jubilee concert will celebrate the 60 years of the Queen’s reign with an amazing line-up of world-class artists coming together to play at one of the biggest and most exciting live music shows in recent years,” he said. “With Buckingham Palace as a backdrop, it’s going to be a fantastic event which transcends multiple decades of music. It’ll be a great, unique experience for the thousands attending, watching n TV and listening on the radio.”

The queen will attend with her husband Prince Philip, along with other members of the royal family, CBS said.
